13–70 (Detached Roots) is a unique art initiative inspired by movement. It draws on the strength of root motility, a legacy passed down from father to son. The project honours the timeless freedom and transformative journey represented by an old Renault truck, one of the first vehicles in Dubrovnik registered under 13–70. The trigger was a photograph of DC’s father smiling with friends near this vehicle. Recognising the quiet magic behind what could have been just a license plate number, 13–70 became a symbol of endurance, purpose, and the courage to follow one’s path.
The truck’s symbolic meaning goes beyond transportation; it embodies the freedom to embrace the unknown and move without a fixed outcome. It represents the ability to journey forward without losing connection to home and ancestry. It shows how roots stay within us, even when lifted, retaining the power to grow, evolve, and transform. It speaks of nurturing authenticity, intuition, courage, and creativity, allowing inherited roots to become wings.
As these wings take flight, they give rise to a vast mycelium web, spreading, connecting, and uniting like-minded individuals. This web symbolises the flow of knowledge, creativity, and inspiration, forming a community shaped by shared growth. Like mycelium in nature, it reflects life’s continuous cycles and the need for strong, interconnected ecosystems.
The artworks born from this idea unfold across seven phases, following the arc of the Hero’s Journey, moving from the first inner call, through descent and illumination, toward return and integration.
